Build 13. Engine Install Prep
Now the engine and gearbox are prepped and ready to install, it is time to install the engine and gearbox mounting points. It is essential to test all these fixings and get them in place before attempting the install to avoid having to remove it all from the chassis once you get it in!
All my mounts were in a box aptly named "Engine mounts" so finding them was pretty easy, the bolts to secure the engine mount to the engine were actually already in the engine, so I removed those and paired them up with their matching mounting bracket.
Rubber Engine Mounts:
The rubber mounts that the engine were going to sit on were also in this box, but with now bolts or nuts. These can be found in the "Miscellaneous Fastener pack", which was an A4 plastic envelope which came in the box with all the other "Z packs" as they called them. You will need 3x45mm M8 bolts, and 1x50mm M8 bolt (this is purely due to a hangover from where the engine earth used to be and Caterham haven't changed it to supply 4 of the 45mm bolts yet!). You will also need 4 washers and 4 nylocs from this pack. Installing them was pretty easy, I had to screw mine in all the way through the chassis bars, just make sure that when it comes out of the other end, it comes out in the correct place at the skin, to you don't damage the chassis skin. Leave these loose-ish as you'll need wiggle room for the engine install.
Gearbox mount
Now is also a good time to get the 4 gearbox bolts in place, these were already attached to my gearbox mounting bracket with washers. Access is tight, but a smaller socket set and 6mm hex socket were the tools to use here, again as per the engine rubbers, you'll need to screw them through the chassis and put a washer between the head of the bolt and the chassis, also align them on the bottom holes so they come out properly. These can be screwed all the way down, so you have a nice bit of thread sticking out of the underside of the chassis, keep the nut and the other washer close by ready for when you need to install the bracket!
